Scholarship Coverage

The MEXT scholarship offers three core benefits:

Full Tuition Coverage: MEXT covers 100% of the tuition fees for the preparatory program, the university entrance examination, and the entire duration of the degree program (Master’s, Doctoral, or Bachelor’s).
Monthly Stipend: Recipients receive a monthly living allowance, which varies by study level. For the 2025 cycle, the stipend is approximately ¥117,000 JPY for Undergraduate Students and between ¥143,000 and ¥145,000 JPY for Research/Graduate Students (subject to annual cost-of-living adjustments).
Round-Trip Airfare: The scholarship covers a round-trip economy-class plane ticket from the international airport nearest your home residence to the international airport nearest your Japanese university.

Categories and Eligibility Criteria

Streamlined Screening: This route often bypasses the initial MEXT written exams, focusing instead on the academic record, interview, and the strength of the research proposal submitted to the university. The university then forwards its recommended list to MEXT.

Application Process

There are three core document types required for submission:
