Eligibility Criteria for Chevening Scholarship
To be considered for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Language: Proficiency in English is required.
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country. A complete list is available on the official website.
- Post-Scholarship Commitment: You must return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship ends.
- Academic Qualification: You must have completed an undergraduate degree that allows you to be accepted into a postgraduate program at a UK university by the time of your application. This is typically equivalent to a UK upper second-class (2:1) honors degree, though this may vary depending on the course and university.
- Work Experience: You need at least two years, which is equivalent to 2,800 hours, of work experience.
- University Application: You must apply to three different eligible UK university courses and secure an unconditional offer from one of them by July.
You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if any of the following apply to you:
- Citizenship: You hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
- Refugee Status: You hold refugee status in a country that is not Chevening-eligible. However, if you are a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country and hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country, you are still eligible.
- Government Affiliation: You are an employee, a former employee, or a relative of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government or the Association of Commonwealth Universities. This ineligibility applies if this employment occurred within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications. This includes staff from British embassies/high commissions and various UK government departments.
- Partner Organization Affiliation: While employees or relatives of Chevening Partner organizations are eligible to apply, they cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the specific organization they are affiliated with if the employment was within the last two years.
- Previous UK Scholarships: You have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

How to Apply for Chevening Scholarship
To apply for the Chevening Scholarship, follow these steps:
- Find Your Country’s Page: Select your country on the official Chevening website and choose the Chevening Scholarship option.
- Create an Account: Register for an account on the application portal.
- Complete Your Profile: Fill in your personal information and validate your profile to begin the application.
- Check Your Eligibility: Take the provided quiz to confirm you meet all the scholarship’s eligibility requirements.
- Fill Out the Application: Complete the application form and prepare the necessary documents. You will need to submit:
- Educational documents
- English language qualification
- Offers for your courses: You must apply to three courses and submit any conditional offers you receive. By July, you must upload at least one unconditional offer.
- Passport/ID: A copy of your passport or other identification.
